MSU Cohort Summer 2015

In my second year in the MAET program, I completed CEP 800, CEP 815, and CEP 822. During the six week cohort, many assignments and activities covered aspects of all three courses. Below, I have listed the large assignments for each individual class as well as the work that covered many topics.

Dream IT

I propose a technology grant to add noise-canceling headphones with built-in microphones to the Spanish classroom to make listening and speaking activities less time-consuming and more meaningful. Although this might seem like a small change, it would redefine speaking activities and alter the classroom focus immensely. Read all the details here.

Final Reflection Paper
Throughout the summer, we have studied how students learn and retain information, what teaching styles best encourage learning, and how technologies can redefine education. These concepts are all applicable to my Spanish classroom and will enhance my teaching. Check out my complete final reflection.

Exploring Key Topics Webinar

Topic: Developing Information Literacy and Technology Skills in Students
My group and I teamed with the MAET Bridge program to explore how technology supports teaching and learning content literacy and how it promotes skills needed for success in the 21st century. Our panel of experts (Tom Driscoll, Teresa Diaz, Jenna Snow, and Alison Cicinelli) shared their experiences and knowledge of digital literacy.

Understanding Understanding Research

What is the Cloud? How do you use it? My group members and I addressed misconceptions about the Cloud, its uses, and internet safety. Watch the video (left) and visit the website here.

Assignments Across Courses

My Photo My Self

Picture

As an introduction, each student was required to take a picture around campus that tells something about himself or herself. I chose to pose next to the stadium since I love football. I am a huge fan of the Michigan State Spartans and the Buffalo Bills!

These pictures present "big ideas" regarding Spanish-language learning in aesthetically pleasing and creative ways. To read more about my i-Images and my reasoning, take a look at my PhotoJournal.

Confronting Misconceptions

"When will I have to use this?" This is a phrase many students have muttered at one time or another. We confronted this misconception by showing that math is everywhere.

Behaviorism Presentation

The language learning app Duolingo uses many key aspects of Behaviorism: negative & positive reinforcement, negative & positive punishment and prompting.

Physics Video

  1. Where does the ball land when you drop it at your side?
  2. Where will it land when you drop it while walking?
  3. Where will it land when you drop it while running?
We set out to answer these questions by using student-led inquiry and trial/error.

De-Motivational Poster

When skill level and challenge level are too different, the result can be disastrous.

Representing Tensions

There can be tensions from many different areas when integrating technology into education. This picture shows the tension between using what is required by the district, knowing what technology is best (TPACK), and understanding how difficult it can be to use new technology.
